As Spruce can not be shipped green without the risk of blue stain, a dry kiln had to be built on site in Alaska. In line with the mission of supplying the very best quality only, a vacuum dry kiln was purchased in Denmark and shipped to Alaska. Vacuum dry kilning is superior to traditional kilns, and indeed natural drying, as it offers an even and stress free drying at relative low temperatures. For importation in all countries of the European Union a heat treatment certificate is required. This heat treatment (30 minutes at 56dgr Celsius) is made an integral part of the kiln drying process as the stringent controlled humidity and environment avoids the introduction of undesired stress. The target final moisture content for all Mast & Spar lumber is 14% (+/- 2%).
