Elena | (Design N.G. Herreshoff 1910)
2012 | Captain Steve McLaren felt the time was right for the majestic Elena to have her original NHG designed full racing rig. This meant a major conversion including a new 13,60 m bowsprit and a 26 m long boom. The brief was to build them in the way Nathaniel Herreshoff did back in 1910, tapered hollow stave construction in Sitka spruce. The project was completed in record time by Brasker Masten in Enkhuizen. From the order date to delivery in San Remo 6 weeks! At Touchwood we supplied all Sitka spruce, selected and pre-cut to exacting specifications.
| She was clearly the top performing racing schooner of this season. Always being pushed to the limit, imminently setting all available sails to the given conditions. For Elena we supplied all Sitka Spruce for her spare topmasts.
This 1910 Herreshoff was recreated in Spain. Elena is close sister to Westward, which was recreated as Eleonora in 2001. Built to the highest possible standards she was the sensation of the Voile de St.Tropez in 2009.
Touchwood supplied custom cut spruce to the Brasker-Ventis combination for the gaffs and topmasts. For more information please check: www.schoonerelena.com
