Alaska Yellow Cedar for Scud rebuild
Another design by Nathanael Herreshoff. Back in 1902 she was built under Seawanhaka Rule and she was fast from the get go. Built alongside the mighty America’s Cup defender Reliance Scud profited from all the cutting edge technology the yard had to offer. In this case that resulted in a yacht which had a superbly simple and intelligent deck layout, light, strong and manageable.
Somehow Scud ended up in a barn in Belgium, maestro Federico Nardi immediately recognized something really special in the wreck before him and found a client who shared his vision. A keel up rebuild started, meticulously following the original plans and scantlings making sure her weight and weight distribution would be as designed back in 1902. Mr. Bertelli took the tiller and surrounded by an his amazing crew from the Luna Rossa America’s Cup challenge the boat set out to win every single regatta she entered.
Touchwood was involved from the early starts of the project and supplied all Alaska Yellow Cedar for her double skin hull planking, the decks and the interior.
