12-Metre Blue Marlin restoration
Up north in Finland in a small town named Kotka is the Wooden Boat Centre, a really special yard lead by master boatbuilder Allan Savolainen. The building of the yard was created to restore wooden yachts, to teach and to house a famous classic Int. 12-Metre named Blue Marlin. She came to the yard as a beautiful wreck but she held a promise. A Twelve with a story of Mr. T.O.M. Sopwith, the famous builder of aircraft, of her designer Charles Nicholson and of racing against Vim owned by Mr. Harold Vanderbilt.
The restoration was done to the highest imaginable standards, keeping as much of the old as possible, including the original Honduras Cedar interior paneling. Touchwood was proud to supply all spruce for the spars, mahogany for the planking, teak for the deck and cedar for the interior.
